LCA as a benchmark for sustainability

Life Cycle Assessments or LCAs quantify the environmental impact of a product starting with the extraction of raw materials from the earth, the processing those raw material, the manufacturing process of the product itself, the use phase, and finally the end-of-life stage. In short, LCAs account for all the inputs and outputs associated with producing a product.

Sustainability During Use Phase

Much of a composite’s sustainability benefits are realized during the use phase. Our lightweight composites have high strength-to-weight ratios, improving both the fuel economy of internal combustion engine vehicles and the range of electric and hybrid vehicles.

  • Our composites can be molded into complex geometries, minimizing the number of components needed for automotive assemblies.
  • Our composites are corrosion and dent resistant leading to a long life in use on the road.
  • Our composites are EV enabling technology. We can formulate with fire resistant materials for specific applications such as safe EV battery enclosures.

End-of-Life

Co-Processing in Cement

Composites can be used as both a feedstock and fuel supplemental in cement kilns.

Composites can be thermally recycled to recover not only fiber and filler, but the decomposed polymers are recovered as useful oils and gases.
